Hi, I’m Jen Fields.

For years, I've been dedicated to documenting families in a way that feels real and true to who you are. As a Washington DC documentary photographer, my approach is simple — just honest moments of love and connection. You get to relax and be together, while I turn your everyday interactions into art.

My journey as an artist started in middle school, in a darkroom with a film camera. I fell in love instantly. What began as a hobby became a passion, and then I took the leap into professional photography, one of the best decisions I've made.

I value time, adventure, and genuine connection, and this work gives me all three. When I'm not behind the camera, I'm supporting others as a psychotherapist — another way I get to witness and honor people's stories.

A little more about me

I'm a mother to a teenaged daughter, so I understand just how precious — and fleeting — life's small moments really are. That's the heart of why I love documentary photography: preserving authentic memories of your baby and family, exactly as they happened.

I always have a book close by, and an insatiable love for travel (see some of my favorite adventures below). Born and raised in New Jersey, I bring curiosity, warmth, and openness into both my life and my work. My favorite place to recharge is near water.

Alongside photography, I also work as a psychotherapist. The skills that work has given me — close observation, deep listening, sensitivity to connection — carry straight into my photography. They're what let me notice and hold onto the meaningful, fleeting moments that make your family's story yours.

My goal is for you to feel completely at ease. I take a relaxed, documentary approach — staying in the background while you simply enjoy time together as a couple or family. There's no pressure to pose or perform; I gently observe and capture the real, connected moments that unfold naturally.

Think of your session as a chance to slow down and be present with your baby, partner, or family, while I preserve the once-in-a-lifetime details. Tiny fingers, quiet cuddles, love in small gestures. Childhood moves fast. Photographs are how we hold onto it.

My role is to be your family's storyteller: a quiet observer turning everyday moments into images you'll treasure forever.

If my approach sounds like the kind of photography you've been looking for, I'd love to hear from you.
